Date: Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM (MT)
Main Event Location: National Hispanic Cultural Center
1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

Below is some information to help get your day started at the event:

Bring your printed ticket to registration.
Registration will open at 8:30am to give you plenty of time to meet other attendees and engage with the community through the Audience Expereince created by some of our TEDxABQ speakers, sponsors and partners.

Be green. Bring your coffee cup, we will provide a free coffee bar starting at 9am in the lobby area of the Journal Theater. Before theater doors open, we dare you to ditch your friends and instead introduce yourself to someone new before the event starts!
Doors to the Journal Theater will close promptly at 10am. Please be seated by 9:55am – you won’t want to be locked out!

Personal comfort: The theatre may be a little cool, so you may want to bring a light jacket.

Best place to park: You may park anywhere on the NHCC parking lot. Parking lots with the shortest walk to the Roy E. Disney Building are on the far West along Ceasar Chavez (Bridge).

Breaks: There will be morning and afternoon breaks. Lunch will be provided after the first session. Plan to sit outdoors and interact in a communal dining experience unless there is inclement weather. And please take this time to deepen your participation by contributing to Audeince Expereinces created by TEDxABQ alumni and partners.

Join the Conversation Online: #TEDxABQ to talk to us on Twitter and Hangout on +TEDxABQ. Share your experience with all those who can’t make it. Audiences from simulcast locations are highly encouraged to participate.

Post-Event Mixer: immediately following the TEDxABQ event in the Ibiza at Hotel Andaluz. 125 2nd St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Thanks to the some highly observant folks on the team who discovered the Wells Fargo parking lot near the Double Tree Hotel is FREE on weekends! However, there are lots of events happening downtown that night so please carry some change for parking in case that lot is full.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a strategic partner of the TEDx program, and together they’ve teamed up for a very special project called TEDxChange — an initiative devoted to ideas worth spreading in the areas of global health and development. The TEDxChange team works with TEDx organizers around the world to help facilitate meaningful discussions on topics such as vaccines, polio, malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn child health, and agricultural development. The TEDxChange initiative also includes a global signature event convened by Melinda Gates and broadcast across the TEDx community.

Convened by Melinda French Gates. Hosted by Chris Anderson.

On April 5, 2012, we’ll take a step back and look at the big picture: Why should we, as a society, continue to invest in global health and development? How can we work across borders and political boundaries to make positive change? And what returns can we expect on our investments?

Three Bosque students, one of our teachers and her husband, and I had the opportunity to attend the Second Annual TEDxABQ conference on Saturday, September 10th, and we learned many valuable lessons from this experience. The Annual TED Conference, which began in Malibu, CA, over twenty years ago, has offered a venue for leaders in the fields of technology, entertainment, and design to share their ideas and inspire others. In fact, the theme of this year’s conference was “Dare to Inspire.” In the past few years, TED has expanded to include more conversations from all over the world, and Albuquerque hosted its first conference last year. We heard presentations from educators attempting to reform elementary schools in New Mexico, farmers who are trying to make locally grown food more affordable, designers who are creating high fashion clothing out of trash, architects who are looking to New Mexico’s past for ideas on design in today’s world, as well as musicians, spoken word poets, and other pioneers in various fields.

Dr. Ries Robinson, who has invented a way to test people’s glucose level in a non-invasive manner, addressed the need for people to find their obsession and pursue it with vigor. According to Dr. Robinson, when people find their obsession, they can “think with purpose and act with impact.” We are impressed by the work that Bosque students do in their classes and in their extra-curricular pursuits; We hope we are aiding them in finding their obsession, so they can work with purpose and have an impact on the world. We also look forward to hearing Bosque School alumni describe their obsessions, share the great things they are accomplishing, and inspire others at future TED conferences.
